Ocean Viking

The 76 foot long fishing vessel Ocean Viking sank near Kodiak, Alaska.   The four crew and a dog had abandoned ship when the fishing vessel suffered uncontrolled water ingress.  The crew had sent out a distress call which was relayed to the Coast Guard.   The crew of Ocean Viking donned survival suits and abandoned into the vessel’s life raft.   The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to the scene which was able to rescue all 4 crew and the vessel’s dog.  No reports of injuries.   Reports state the crew were transported to Kodiak and were in good condition.   The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the sinking.

The 640 foot long, 23320 dwt bulk freighter Algorail went aground on the Saginaw River near Bay City, Michigan.  The Algorail was proceeding to Zilwaukee with its cargo of salt when it became stuck in the shipping channel.  The vessel was unable to refloat itself and requested assistance by a tug.  The tug attempted to free the vessel, but it required the freighter to lighten some its cargo before it floated free.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  The cause of the grounding may be due to silting in the river.  The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

KLIPPEN

The 20 meter long buoy tender Klippen went aground near Törevägen, Sweden.  The vessel was proceeding to check on buoys in the Kalix archipelago when it grounded.   The vessel suffered some damage to its hull.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.  The Klippen proceeded to a shipyard for repairs.  The authorities have launched an invesstigation into the incident.
