Cedit 4

The 69 meter long, 1753 dwt freighter Cedit 4 caught fire in the Aegean Sea near Bozcaada, Turkey.   The fire started in the engine room and quickly spread to other sections of the vessel.   The crew sent out a distress call with the authorities responding with rescue boats and tugs.  The rescue boats were able to safely evacuated the crew while the master of the Cedit 4 stayed on board.   The fire was brought under control a few hours later.   No reports of pollution being released.   Reports state the Cedit 4 was in ballast at the time.

Efstratios

Efstratios

The 88 meter long, 2954 dwt freighter Efstratios went aground in the Aegean Sea near Agia Marina, Greece.   The vessel suffered no hull breaches and no reports of water ingress.  Attempts to refloat itself failed as the Efstratios was hard aground requiring the assistance of a salvage tug.  No injuries or pollution released.   The Efstratios was en route to an unreported Greek port with a cargo of sunflower.

Dogu Haslaman

Dogu Haslaman

The 71 meter long, 1916 dwt freighter Dogu Haslaman sank off the coast near Cesme, Turkey.  The vessel was proceeding to Ashdod, Israel from Instanbul with a cargo of nitrates when the vessel suffered water ingress in the machine room.   The vessel sent out a distress call with the nearby vessel Pirireis responding.   Eleven crewmen were rescued, but two crewmen perished due to a heart attack.   The men were later transferred to a  Coast Guard vessel.
