The 73 meter long general cargo vessel Sea Bird ran  aground on the Mediterranean Sea near Antalya, Turkey. The Sea Bird had suffered engine failure in bad weather and dropped anchor.  The anchors didn’t hold and the cargo vessel drifted ashore.  The 14 crew on board were safely rescued by the Turkish Coast Guard and were later taken to local authorities.  Reports state the Sea Bird had departed from Istanbul in ballast before it had suffered engine failure.

The 80 meter long, 2670 dwt freighter Tayyar Senkaya 1 sank in the Mediterranean Sea near Antalya, Turkey.  The Tayyar Senkaya 1 had suffered water ingress in its cargo hold while en route to Singapore from Eregli with a cargo of steel.   The Tayyar Senkaya 1 sent out a distress call and were rescued by a nearby vessel.  No reports of injuries to the 11 crew.   No further details reported.

Freighter Sea Bright Ashore

The 7402 dwt freighter Sea Bright went around on the Kaleici Rocks on the Antalya coast of Turkey. The vessel suffered severe damage with the hull being holed. Sixteen crew were rescued with 1 crew lost when he jumped overboard. The Sea Bright anchor dragged during high winds and heavy seas.
