The 139 meter long river passenger ship Viking Legend went aground on the Danube River near Strudengau, Austria.  The vessel was passing through a narrow section when it became stuck.  The pushing towboat Aries arrived on scene and was able refloat the Viking Legend after a few attempts.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  The Viking Legend was able to continue on its voyage.

The 58 meter long self-propelled barge Orenburg pushing the barge UDP C-447 allided with a bridge on the Enns near Mauthausen, Austria.   The vessels had steered to close to the Mauthausen side of the river and struck a pilling.    The barge suffered damage to its bow.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.   Authorities allowed the vessel to proceeded to a nearby estuary.

Twin City Liner

The 33 meter long, 40 ton passenger ship / catamaran Twin City Liner ran aground on the Danube Canal near Vienna, Austria.   The Twin City Liner was proceeding along the canal with 100 people when it suffered an engine failure allowing the vessel onto the canal’s embankment.   Ten passengers suffered minor injuries with two taken to hospital.  The remaining passengers were safely transferred ashore and were aided by the local fire brigade.   The passenger ship suffered no damage or pollution and was able to refloat itself a short time later the same day.   The Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
