Collision on Azov-Don Canal

The 132 meter long, 4660 dwt tanker Volgoneft-210 collided with the 108 meter long cargo vessel Veles on the Azov-Don Sea Canal near Rostov-on-Don, Russia.  Reports state the vessels were proceeding in reduced visibility when the Volgoneft-210 struck the Veles.  The Veles sustained damage along the bulwark and main deck.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. Both vessels were ordered to proceed to Rostov-on-Don for surveys.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 114 meter long cargo vessel Nicky ran aground on the Azov-Don Sea Canal near Azov, Russia. The cargo vessel was en route to Azov from Istanbul when it ran aground outside the canal fairway. Reports state the initial attempts to refloat the Nicky were unsuccessful and there was a pilot on board at the time of the incident. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On August 14, the 138 meter long, 5446 dwt general cargo vessel Leonid Khotkin ran aground in the Azov-Don Sea Canal just outside of Azov, Russia.  The Leonid Khotkin was en route to Turkey from Azov with a cargo of wheat when the vessel hit bottom.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Leonid Khotkin was later refloated the same day and proceeded to Azov for inspection.
