Collision off Taiwan Strait

The 16 meter long fishing vessel Min Shi Yu 06867 collided with the 96 meter tanker Hu You 8 in the Taiwan Strait near Quanzhou, China. The tanker and fishing vessel collided head-on with both vessels suffering damage. The tanker’s hull was breached at the bow and a portside tank while the Min Shi Yu 06867 suffered damage to its bow.  Reports state the Hu You 8 suffered water ingress and developed a list, but was later stablized.  Some of the 2976 tons of gasoline cargo was released into the sea.  One crewman on the fishing vessel was injured in the collision and required hospitalization. The Hu You 8 was escorted to Meizhou Bay where it anchored.

On October 21, the 110 meter long cargo vessel Rong Jiang 003 capsized in the Bohai Sea near Penglai, Shandong, China.  The vessel completely turned over sending the seven crew into the water.  Authorities were alerted and dispatched helicopters to the scene. One of the seven crew was later rescued from the water.  The remaining six crew were still reported as missing.

On October 17, the 299 meter long container ship MSC Channe became disabled in the East China Sea off Zhoushan Island, China. The MSC Channe was in sea trials when if suffered steering failure.  The boxship requested assistance and was taken under tow by a tug back to port in Shanghai. No reports of injuries to 82 persons on board, damage or pollution released.
