The 110 meter long self-propelled barge Rhenus Duisburg collided with the self-propelled tanker Eiltank 66 on the Wesel-Datteln Canal near the locks at Friedrichsfeld, Germany.  The two ships were approaching each other when a navigational mistake caused both vessels to collide head-on. Both vessels sustained bow damage and water ingress. The local fire brigade arrived on scene and provided de-watering pumps to keep both vessels afloat. Traffic was halted on the canal as several hours of salvage work was completed on both barges.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. The water police launched an investigation into the incident. The Rhenus Duisburg was headed to Voerde from Dorsten while the Eiltank 66 had departed from Voerda. Damage was reported to be over 100,000 €.
