On January 31, the 45 meter long, 250 dwt expedition vessel Freya ran aground on a reef near Askvoll, Norway. The Freya was proceeding to Florø with 9 crew on board when it struck the Flatøyna reef. Unable to free herself, the crew requested assistance. A NSSR lifeboat from Måløy was dispatched to the scene and was able to pull the Freya free on the rising tide. No reports of injuries. The Freya was able to proceed under her own power to Florø where it was later surveyed. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. No reports of pollution released.
