Nellie M

The 35 foot long fishing vessel Nellie M sank while berthed on the Quillayute River at La Push, Washington. The vessel sank during the night with no one on board.  A sheen was reported around the sunken fishing vessel as 600 gallons of diesel fuel was on board at the time.  The harbormaster placed a boom around the site to contain the pollution released. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

On March 20, the 1934 dwt cargo vessel Anh Duy 168 collided with the fishing vessel QNG-98879 TS off Hai Phong, Vietnam. The fishing vessel was struck amidships and quickly filled with water.  As the QNG-98879TS sank,  the 9 crew on board abandoned ship.  All were rescued by the Anh Duy 168 and by another fishing vessel nearby.  The 15 tons of fish on board was lost.

On March 13, the 63 foot long fishing vessel Joyce Lynn II ran aground on sandy beach of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The crab boat had struck rocks along the  off Port Everglades sustaining hull damage and water ingress.  The Joyce Lynn II requested assistance with a Coast Guard boat responding.  The four crew jumped off the crab boat onto the rescue boat.  One man sustained minor injuries.  The Joyce Lynn II later washed ashore.  Initial attempts to refloat the vessel failed.  A salvage company plans to remove the vessel off the beach. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.
