The 13 meter long fishing vessel Germans Fortuny ran aground near Salou, Spain. The vessel had run ashore onto the beach off Ponent. No reports of injuries to the 4 crew on board. Authorities dispatched the rescue boat Salvamar Fomalhaut to the scene.  Rescuers were able to refloat the Germans Fortuny a short time later and towed the fishing vessel back Tarragona. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 26 meter long, 139 gt trimaran fishing vessel L’Horitzó caught fire in the Mediterranean Sea near the entrance to the Ebro River, Spain.  Reports state the fire started in the vessel’s engine room. The 6 crew on board requested assistance with several nearby vessels responding. Authorities dispatched a helicopter to the scene to assist.  Reports state the fire was brought under control, but the L’Horitzó was disabled. The Fishing vessel Titaro II took the L’Horitzó under tow back to port. No reports of injuries.

The 15 meter long fishing vessel Gyotoku Maru No. 1 capsized in the Pacific Ocean near the island of Palau. The Gyotoku Maru No. 1 had been fishing for tuna with 7 crew when it sent out a distress call.  Authorities from Japan, Palau and United States dispatched aircraft and ships to the area.  When rescuers arrived on scene, they found the longliner capsized on its starboard hull and partially sunk. Pollution could be spotted as the diesel fuel had leaked from the fishing vessel.  However, there was no signs of the 7 crewmen. Reports state authorities continue to search the area for the missing crew.
