Lam Hong 26

The 56 meter long, 1024 dwt freighter Lam Hong 26 sank in the Gulf of Tonkin near Hai Phong, Vietnam.   The Lam Hong 26 had become disabled when its propeller had become entangled.   The vessel went adrift in heavy winds and developed a significant list.   The crew requested assistance with a rescue vessel responding.   All eight crew were safely rescued before the Lam Hong 26 sank.  The vessel was carrying iron ore from Nghe An to China.

The 90 meter long, 4373 dwt freighter Truong Minh Victory became disabled near Haiphong, Vietnam.   The Truong Minh Victory had departed Haiphong bound for Palembang when it suffered a power blackout and went adrift.   No reports of injuries.   No further details reported.

Collision at Haiphong

The 157 meter long, 22201 dwt freighter Eastern Sun collided with the barge HP 2868 in the Lach Huyen Canal near Haiphong, Vietnam.  The Eastern Sun struck the barge which quickly sank sending its six crew on board into the water.  The Eastern Sun’s crew lowered their lifeboats into the water and rescued three of the barge’s crew.   The other three crewmen were reported as missing the following day.  Authorities dispatch search and rescue craft to the area.   The cause of the collision had not yet been determined.
