Emstide

Emstide

The 99 meter long, 5200 dwt freighter Emstide allided with a quay in the Kiel Canal at Rendsburg, Germany.  The Emstide had suffered a steering failure with the hydraulic system on the rudder and struck the quay.    The freighter suffered damage resulting in a small hole on the aft section of the hull.   The vessel was detained until the crew can make repairs.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Adler I

Adler I

The 14 meter long ferry Adler I went aground on the Kiel Canal near Holtenau, Germany.   The vessel was en route from Wik when it attempted to berth.   Two earlier attempts had missed the pier and the third attempt ran the vessel onto the embankment.   The vessel was able to refloat itself and later docked.   The water police conducted an investigation with drug and alcohol tests negative.   The Adler I will be inspected for damage by divers the next day.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Weserstern

Weserstern

The 127 meter long, 10891 dwt tanker Weserstern suffered an engine room fire while in the locks at Brunsbüttel, Germany.   The tanker was waiting to enter the North Sea from the Kiel Canal when the fire broke out.   The crew was able to contain and extinguish the blaze.   No reports of injuries.   The Weserstern remains moored at Brunsbüttel.  No details to the extent of damage caused by the fire.   The tanker was en route to Rotterdam from Porvoo.
