The 71 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Woods Hole ran aground in Vineyard Haven Harbor, Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.  The ferry was approaching the dock in Vineyard Haven with 146 passengers when it ran aground in shallow water. The Woods Hole was able to release itself and proceeded to berth at the dock.

The Coast Guard was alerted and detained the Woods Hole until it could be inspected for damage. The ferry remained in port for several hours until it was cleared by the Coast Guard and returned back to service. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 335 meter long, 96980 dwt container ship Helsinki Bridge allided with a quay at the Paul W. Conley Container Terminal in Boston, Massachusetts. The Helsinki Bridge was berthed at the terminal when strong winds caused all 12 mooring lines to snap. The container ship drifted free striking the pier and one of the terminal’s cranes. Damage to the Helsinki Bridge was minimal, but the pier sustained some damage.

The Coast Guard along with local authorities responded to the scene. Two tugboats and a pilot boat escorted the Helsinki Bridge to Broad Sound where the boxship dropped anchor. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

On November 9, the 45 foot long fishing vessel Anne Rowe ran aground between Brace Cove and Eastern Point Lighthouse, Massachusetts. The Anne Rowe had run up onto the rocky shoreline during the early morning hours leaving the lobster boat high and dry.

Authorities were alerted and the Coast Guard dispatched the 47-foot response boat along with other units to the scene. They found the crew in survival gear and aided them to shore. No reports of injuries.

Reports state the Anne Rowe was refloated and proceeded to a nearby shipyard for repairs. No reports of pollution released. The cause of the grounding was not disclosed.
