Fire off Newfoundland

A fishing vessel based out of Englee caught fire while off St. Anthony, Newfoundland, Canada.  The vessel with 5 men on board sent out a distress signal.   A nearby vessel reached the scene and pulled four crewmen, all in lifesuits, out of the water.  A Coast Guard helicopter also reached the scene and pulled the last crewman out of the water, but he only had a life-jacket.   He was non-responsive and later pronounced dead.  The four survivors were taken to Lewisporte and later to hospital.   Canada authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Newfoundland ferry collision

The provincial ferry Marine Voyager collided with a fishing boat off Boar Island near Burgeo, Newfoundland. The ferry had left Burgeo and struck the anchored fishing boat. Reports state there was light fog in the area, but that visibility was good. The fishing boat suffered minor damage and no one was injured.
