The 30 meter long passenger vessel Didim Mavisi caught fire in the Aegean Sea near Sarımsaklı’dan, Turkey.  The fire started in the galley when the crew was preparing to cook fish for lunch.   The fire quickly spread from the galley until the whole vessel was engulf in flames.   The master of the vessel proceeded back towards shore to a nearby cove.  There the vessel dropped anchor where local boats came out to rescue.  The boats rescued the majority of people, but some passengers decided to jump into the sea and swim ashore.   No reported injuries to the 100 passengers on board or crew.   The Didim Mavisi later burned to the waters edge.
