Collision off Isle de Tortue

The 150 meter long, 11013 dwt reefer Timor Stream collided with the 170 meter long, 28836 dwt freighter Seagate near Isle de Tortue, Haiti.  The Timor Stream struck in the starboard stern quarter of the Seagate leaving a large gash.   The Seagate was severely damaged and suffered water ingress.   The 18 of the 21 crew on board the Seagate abandoned ship and were taken on board the Timor Stream.  After the further inspection, the Seagate was found to be stable and was not going to sink.   The vessel’s engine room had only minimal flooding.   However, one of the Seagate’s fuel tanks was punctured releasing some 4,000 gallons of lubricating oil.   The Timor Stream suffered minimal damage.   No reports of injuries on either vessel.  The Coast Guard Cutter Venturous was nearby and has taken command at the scene.
