Beatrice

On April 23, the 190 meter long, 55700 dwt bulk carrier Beatrice ran aground on the Paraná River near Rosario, Uruguay. The Beatrice had departed from Rosario en route to Salif, Yemen when it ran aground. The bulk carrier remained aground for several hours until tugs were able to pull the vessel free. The Beatrice proceeded to Puerto Paraná where it will be surveyed for damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 183 meter long, 44640 dwt tanker Siteam Anja ran aground off Punta del Este, Uruguay. The tanker was en route to Rio Grande, Brasil from San Lorenzo, Argentina with 35000 tons of vegetable oil when it suffered a power black out. The tanker drifted and ran aground onto the rocks just 400 meters off the shore of Lobos Island. Authorities dispatched vessels and divers to the scene.  Booms were placed around the tanker to contain any pollution released. Reports state the cargo will be lightered to another tanker. The extent of damage was not reported.

The 134 meter long, 12711 gt research vessel Akademik Tryoshnikov went aground in the harbor at Montevideo, Uruguay.   The vessel was maneuvering between berths in the harbor when it went aground.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.   The Akademik Tryoshnikov was quickly refloated and proceeded to dock.   Reports state a pilot was on board at the time of the grounding.   The Akademik Tryoshnikov was built in 2012 and is scheduled to depart for Antarctica from Montevideo.
