The 4,200 dwt unfinished vessel Arctic Dawn struck the Schellingwouder Bridge on the IJmeer near Amsterdam, Netherlands.  The Arctic Dawn was being pushed by the the 15 meter long tug Waterlelie when the top of the vessel struck the the bridge.  The bridge was shifted about one centimeter causing it not to close.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Traffic was diverted until the bridge could be lowered.  Reports state the bridge will require further repairs.  The Arctic Dawn was reported as not yet completed and was still under construction.

The unregistered cargo vessel Claudia Alejandra sank in the Pacific Ocean near Cabo Marzo, Columbia. The Claudia Alejandra had gone adrift after suffering engine failure.   The vessel sank the following day.  The Columbian Navy, Coast Guard and local fisherman rescued 14 of the 22 crew on board.  Reports state five crew perished as they were trapped inside the vessel when it sank.   A search and rescue effort also recovered three bodies.  No vessel details were reported.

Waibel 11 Aground

Waibel 11 Aground

The vessel Waibel 11 went aground on the Rhine River near Plittersdorf, Germany.   The Waibel’s rudder had failed and the vessel drifted onto a gravel bank.   The Waibel 11 was unable to free itself and a dredger has been requested to lighter the Waibel of 600 tons of its 2100 tons of gravel on board.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
