On January 31, the 87 foot long fishing vessel Sunnfjord sank off Cape Alava, Washington. The Sunnfjord had suffered water ingress and the vessel’s pumps had failed. Unable to control the flooding, the crew contacted the Coast Guard for assistance. The Coast Guard dispatched several cutters, motor lifeboats and a helicopter to scene.  Rescuers arrived on scene and first attempted to pass over dewatering pumps to the Sunnfjord.  The pumps were unable to stop the flooding and the five crew abandoned ship.  The crew were rescued before the Sunnfjord sank in 300 feet of water.  No reports of injuries.  The Sunnfjord had some 800 gallons of diesel fuel on board at the time of the sinking.

On December 14, the 199 meter long bulk carrier KM London ran aground on the Columbia River off Crims Island near Longview, Washington. The KM London was headed for Japan with a cargo of wheat when it veered off course and ran aground. The bulker sustained damage to its forepeak and suffered water ingress. The Coast Guard was alerted by the crew of the incident. The Coast Guard dispatched a response team to scene. Aircraft were dispatched and found no oil pollution had been released.

The KM London was refloated by tugs the next day with the high tide. Three tugs escorted the vessel back to Longview where it can be surveyed of damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

On April 7, the 35 meter long tugboat Gene Dunlap ran ashore at Seattle, Washington. The Gene Dunlap was under tow by another tugboat heading to a nearby drydock when the vessel suffered water ingress. To avoid sinking, the tugboat pushed the Gene Dunlap into shallow water.  Assisted by authorities, the crew was able to dewater the Gene Dunlap and make repairs. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
