The 23 meter long fishing vessel Iuda Naofa sank off the Butt of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland. The trawler had sprung a leak in very rough seas and sent out a distress call.  A Coastguard helicopter was dispatched from Stornoway and reached the scene. The helicopter was able to drop a dewatering pump, but it was unable to bring the flooding under control.  The crew abandoned ship and went into the water.  The helicopter airlifted the 5 crew to safety. Two were taken to a nearby vessel Star of Hope while the other three were taken to Stornoway where they receive treatment for hypothermia.

The 292 meter long container ship Atlantic Companion became disabled off Fastnet Rock.  The Atlantic Companion was en route to Halifax from Liverpool when it suffered engine failure.  The vessel went adrift while the crew attempted to repair the engine and restore power. The crew was able restore power some 12 hours later and the boxship proceeded to an anchorage in Bantry Bay. There the crew continued repairs on the engine. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
