Cemfjord

The 83 meter long bulk carrier Cemfjord capsized in Pentland Firth between Scotland and Orkney Islands. The Cemfjord was en route to Runcorn from Aalborg with a cargo of cement when the vessel lost stability and quickly overturned.  It suspected the crew had no time to react to as there was  no distress call was sent from the Cemfjord.  Authorities were alerted when the bow of the Cemfjord was spotted by the  passing ferry Hrossey.  Authorities dispatched four RNLI lifeboats, multiple…

Hoegh Osaka

The 180 meter long, 16886 dwt car carrier Hoegh Osaka ran aground  in the Solent off the Isle of Wight, England.  The Hoegh Osaka was en route to Bremerhaven, Germany when the vessel suffered a mechanical malfunction.  The Hoegh Osaka made a sharp turn and ran up on the Bramble Bank.  The car carrier quickly listed over 45 degrees to starboard.  Reports state some of the crew found themselves in the water from the step listing.
