Stena Transit

Stena Transit

The 212 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Stena Transit caught fire on the Humber off Grimsby.  The Stena Transit was coming from Rotterdam with 180 persons on board when the fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room.  The crew made an emergency anchorage and quickly extinguished the blaze. The Humber RNLI lifeboat was alerted and arrived on scene along with two tug boats. The vessels stood by while the crew ventilated the engine room.  After a few hours the crew found there was no danger to those aboard the Stena Transit, the RNLI lifeboat stood down.  Reports state there were no injuries or pollution released. The Stena Transit berthed in Immingham the following day.
