The 40 meter long fishing vessel Ardent II caught fire while berthed at Peterhead Harbour, Scotland. The started in the early morning and quickly engulfed the trawler. Local fire brigade dispatched 34 firefighters  while the RNLI dispatched a lifeboat to the scene. The firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze while the lifeboat assisted in cooling down the deck with its water pump. No one was on board the Ardent II at the time of the fire. No reports of pollution.

The 93 meter long oil rig platform Transocean Winner ran aground on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. The oil rig was being towed by the tug Alp Forward to Malta without personnel on board when a strong summer storm cause the towline to break. The tug was unable to reestablish the towline before the rig ran ashore. No reports of injuries. The Transocean Winner had some 280 tons of diesel fuel onboard, but no reports of pollution released. Reports state that salvage operations are underway to recover the oil rig.
