Transocean Winner

The 93 meter long oil rig platform Transocean Winner ran aground on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. The oil rig was being towed by the tug Alp Forward to Malta without personnel on board when a strong summer storm cause the towline to break. The tug was unable to reestablish the towline before the rig ran ashore. No reports of injuries. The Transocean Winner had some 280 tons of diesel fuel onboard, but no reports of pollution released. Grete Fighter

On October 26, the 47 meter long, 510 dwt dredger Grete Fighter caught fire on the Clyde near Wemyss Bay, Scotland. The fire started in the vessel’s engine room damaging the main engine and a generator. The crew was able to extinguish the blaze by using the fire suppression system on board. One crew man was later treated for smoke inhalation. No pollution released.  The damage disabled the vessel and vessel went adrift.  Authorities dispatched two tugs to the dredger and…
