The 100 meter long cargo, 4444 dwt cargo vessel Wilson Corpach  ran aground near the Briton Ferry Bridge at Swansea, Wales. The  Wilson Corpach was headed for Antwerp from Avonmouth with a cargo of steel coils when it became stuck on a mud bank near the bridge.  The Coastguard was alerted and was able to refloat the Wilson Corpach with the next rising tide. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Wilson Corpach continued on its voyage after survey for damage was completed.

The 93 meter long oil rig platform Transocean Winner ran aground on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. The oil rig was being towed by the tug Alp Forward to Malta without personnel on board when a strong summer storm cause the towline to break. The tug was unable to reestablish the towline before the rig ran ashore. No reports of injuries. The Transocean Winner had some 280 tons of diesel fuel onboard, but no reports of pollution released. Reports state that salvage operations are underway to recover the oil rig.
