The 135 meter long, 8105 dwt reefer cargo ship Nagato Reefer ran aground during the night on the on Shingles Bank. The vessel was proceeding just west of The Needles off the Isle of Wight in ballast when it grounded. The Nagato Reefer remained stuck for six hours until it was able to refloat itself. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
The 186 meter long, 6874 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Dover Seaways struck the harbour breakwall while departing Dover, England. The Dover Seaways, loaded with 320 passengers, headed out of the harbour around 8 a.m. on a regular run to Dunkirk. As the ferry attempted to turn to pass through the harbour entrance it struck the breakwall. The ferry sustained some bow damage while the breakwater sustained scrapes.
The Dover Seaways returned back to its berth in the Eastern Docks in Dover. Four passengers suffered minor injuries during the allision and were taken to hospital in Ashford. The remaining passengers and freight were disembarked in Dover. The Dover Seaways was pulled from service to be inspected for damage and repairs.

Reports state the Dover Express was proceeding around 8 knots and had turned the vessel’s rudders before it hit the breakwater. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
