The 23 meter long fishing vessel Iuda Naofa sank off the Butt of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland. The trawler had sprung a leak in very rough seas and sent out a distress call. A Coastguard helicopter was dispatched from Stornoway and reached the scene. The helicopter was able to drop a dewatering pump, but it was unable to bring the flooding under control. The 83 meter long bulk carrier Cemfjord capsized in Pentland Firth between Scotland and Orkney Islands. The Cemfjord was en route to Runcorn from Aalborg with a cargo of cement when the vessel lost stability and quickly overturned.
