The 98 meter long, 2118 dwt fishing vessel Adventure suffered an explosion in the engine room while off Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. The chief engineer suffered burns and was evacuated from the vessel by helicopter. A tug was dispatched to the scene and took the fishing vessel under tow en route to Las Palmas.
The passenger ship Anna Akhmatova suffered a fire while berthed at Moscow, Russia. The fire quickly spread and engulfed a large section of the main and passengers deck. Local firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze after six hours. None of the 10 workers on board were injured in the fire. The vessel was severely damaged. No details on the start of the fire, but most likely caused by one of the workers on board at the time. The vessel was built in 1959 in Hungry.
The 68 foot fishing vessel Heritage sank off Kodiak Island, Alaska in bad weather with 60 knots winds and 16 foot waves. A Jayhawk helicopter was heading to rescue an earlier wreck, see Part I, when it received the distress call from the Heritage. The helicopter proceed to the scene. At the same time, the 37 meter long fishing vessel Tuxedni, headed to the scene. The Tuxedni was able to rescue five crewman while the helicopter pulled two crewman from the water. All seven crewmen were wearing survival suits and reported to be in good condition. The Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident.
