On the morning of December 29, the 13 meter long fishing vessel Nuevo Monteveo caught fire in the Bay of Biscay some 8 miles from Playa Franca Rivadeva, Spain. The four crew on the Nuevo Monteveo abandoned ship into a life raft as the fire swept through the fishing vessel.  Fortunately, all were rescued by the nearby 9 meter long fishing vessel Eva Dos (MMSI: 224224340) who transported them to San Vicente de la Barquera, Spain. An ambulance was waiting for the crew, but the crew were reported to be in good condition with only sustaining minor bruises.

The Salvamento Maritimó would dispatched the 15 meter long search and rescue vessel Salvamar Castor (MMSI: 224007650) to assist in fighting the fire on the Nuevo Monteveo.  The fire would be extinguished a short time later.

The Nuevo Monteveo sustained severe damage from the blaze with much of the superstructure gutted.  No further details reported.

 

 

Nuevo Pedro Loli

On December 22, the 24 meter long fishing vessel Nuevo Pedro Loli (MMSI: 224015120) became disabled in the Mediterranean Sea approximately 1.5 nautical miles southeast of Santa Pola, Spain. The fishing vessel with 8 crew on board had gone adrift after suffering engine failure. The Nuevo Pedro Loli requested assistance with the Salvamento Marítimo dispatching the 22 meter long search and rescue vessel Salvamar Leo (MMSI: 225994639) to assist. The Salvamar Leo took the Nuevo Pedro Loli under tow and proceeded back to Santa Pola.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

 

NA-98687-TS

On the afternoon of December 9, the fishing vessel NA-98687-TS sank in the Bắc Bộ Gulf some 50 nautical miles east of Ha Tinh, Vietnam. Reports state the NA-98687-TS had 8 crew members was fishing off Hoang Mai when the vessel was struck by high waves and sank. Vietnamese authorities received a distress call from the fishing vessel and launched a search and rescue operation.  A coast guard vessel aided by multiple fishing vessels began a search for survivors.  The search over several hours eventually found the survivors who had kept afloat with life jackets or clinging onto styrofoam containers. The fishing vessel NA-93986 would pull 7 of the 8 crew NA-98687-TS to safety.  One crew member was still reported as missing.
