The 1392 dwt crane vessel Shirvan caught fire after an explosion in it’s forepeak while at anchor in Baku Bay, Azerbaijan. Five workers were injured and 1 perished in hospital. The fire was put out, but no reports to the extent of the damage to the Shirvan. The cause of the explosion was to improper safety while welding.
The 3197 dwt freighter Onix collided with the 3340 dwt freighter Amur-2505 in the Azov Sea. The Onix suffered damage to its ballast and fuel tanks along with damage to it’s bridge and superstructure. The Onix lost propollusion and was towed to Kerch, Crimea. The Amur-2505 had slight damage to its bow and proceeded to Kerch, Crimea. No reports of injuries to the crewmen or pollution being released.
The 3060 dwt Ariel was in a collision with the 3309 dwt Evgenia in the Marmara Sea near Istambul. Both vessels sustained damage. The Evgenia was onroute to Kherson from Istanbul. One crew member onboard the Evgenia was injured. No reports of pollution being released. An investigation into the accident will be conducted.
