On July 27, the 30 foot long fishing vessel Fishing Time suffered damage and water ingress off Valdez, Alaska. The Fishing Time was fishing off Valdez when the hull suffered a four inch crack allowing water ingress.  The crew requested assistance with the Coast Guard 45 foot long response boat from Valdez.  The Coast Guard arrived on scene and was able to safely transfer a dewatering pump along with a damage control kit to bring the flooding under control.  The Coast Guard escorted the Fishing Time to Cordova safely.  No reports of injuries to the two crew on board.

Federal Margaree

On July 26, the 185 meter long, 27,786 dwt bulk carrier Federal Margaree caught fire while berthed on the Detroit River at Nicholson’s Dock in Detroit, Michigan. The fire started in the vessel’s engine room and quickly extinguished by the crew.  The vessel was inspected for damage and was able to depart the following day under its own power.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

Flying Cat 4

The 55 meter long, 100 dwt passenger catamaran ferry Flying Cat 4 ran aground near Tinos, Greece.  The high speed ferry with 239 passengers and 14 crew departed from Rafina bound for Santorini. When the ferry reached just outside of Tinos, the vessel ran aground in the dense fog. No reports of injuries.  Local fishing vessels came to the assistance and helped evacuate passengers off the ferry. A tug was requested to refloat the vessel.
