The 1344 dwt freighter Hav Sund went aground near Nærøy, Norway. The freighter contacted the rescue center Sør who dispatched a lifeboat to the scene. The lifeboat was able to refloat the Hav Sund later the same day. The freighter was taken to a safe anchorage to be inspected by divers. The Hav Sund was loaded with a cargo of flour bound for Myre from Maloy. No reports of injuries to the five crew and no pollution was released.
Hanjin Semarang
The 145 meter long, 12550 dwt boxship Hanjin Semarang went aground on a shoal near the entrance to the port of Chittagong, Bangledesh. The boxship was able to be refloated on the next high tide. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released. The Hanjin Semarang was headed to Chittagong from Port Klang with 800 containers on board.
Heather Anne Sank
The 36 foot fishing vessel Heather Anne sank in Gerrans Bay near Falmouth, England. The two crewmen on board were rescued by a nearby fishing vessel Lauren Kate who witnessed the sinking. The Lauren Kate contacted the Coast Guard who dispatched a RAF helicopter and the local RNLI lifeboats to the scene. The helicopter airlifted one crewman as he was in need of immediate treatment. Unfortunately, he did not recover and died later in hospital. The other crewman was taken by lifeboat back to Mevagissey. The cause of the sinking was not reported. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.
