Isle of Innisfree

December 24, 2024 | Allision

On December 20, the 163 meter long, 4286 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Isle of Innisfree (IMO: 8908466) allided with the quay in the port of Fishguard, Wales. The Isle of Innisfree was attempting to dock when it suffered difficulties and struck the quay and tearing a hole in the port side of the stern. The hole is above the waterline and no reports of water ingress. There were no reports of injuries.

The ferry would undergo emergency repairs before it could proceed on its return voyage to Dublin. Authorities are investigating the incident.

Isa Star

December 6, 2024 | Explosion, Fire

On December 5, the 107 meter long, 9022 dwt container/cargo vessel Isa Star (IMO: 9210270) sustain an explosion in the Red Sea off Hodeidah, Yemen. The Isa Star alerted authorities it had suffered an explosion in the engine room resulting in fire and hull damage. The explosion was strong enough to damage the hull to allow water ingress. Without any way to control the flooding, the crew of the Isa Star requested evacuation. The European Union naval mission Aspidas dispatched a vessel which was able to safely evacuate all the crew off the Isa Star. The crew would be taken to Djibouti. Reports do not state if there was any injuries or the final outcome of the Isa Star.

Istanbul Collision

November 27, 2024 | Collision

On November 21, the 100 meter long, 7748 dwt cargo vessel Marla Orca (IMO: 9217802) collided with the 116 meter long, 3329 dwt cargo vessel DSK1 (IMO: 8721442) in the Sea of Marmara off Kartal, Istanbul, Turkey. The Marla Orca was anchored off Kartal when strong winds caused its anchor to drag causing it to strike the nearby anchored DSK1.

The collision resulted in visible damage to both cargo vessels. The vessels will be further inspected to ensure seaworthiness. However, there were no reports of injuries or pollution released. Both vessels were able to maneuver to more secure anchorage. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
