On August 19, the 33 meter long, 148 gt passenger ship Jens Albrecht ran aground just outside the port of Horumersiel, Germany. The vessel requested assistance with the DGzRS lifeboat responding. The lifeboat was unable to pull the Jens Albrecht free due to the receding tide, but was able to re-float the passenger ship on the following high tide. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
On July 9, the 28 meter long, 115 dwt sailing vessel Johanna ran aground off Nesottddtangen, Norway. The Johanna was on a summer cruise with 149 passengers and seven crew when it suffered water ingress. The crew was unable to stop the flooding and intentionally ran the vessel aground. All passengers and crew abandoned ship and evacuated to the shore. The Johanna continued to sink by the stern until only part of the superstructure remained above water. Built in 1892, the sailing ship was one of the oldest still in use in Norway. No reports of injuries. Authorities do not yet know what the cause of the water ingress, but have launched an investigation into the incident.
The cargo vessel Jin Zhao 29 ran aground in the Taiwan Strait off Dadan Island near Xiamen, China. The Jin Zhao 29 sustained hull damage with the cargo hold 1 holed resulting in water ingress. The crew requested assistance with several rescue boats and tugs responding. Reports state all 14 crew were safety evacuated and rescuers were able to keep the vessel afloat. The following day the Jin Zhao 29 was towed to Xiamen where it berthed.
