On December 14, the 199 meter long bulk carrier KM London ran aground on the Columbia River off Crims Island near Longview, Washington. The KM London was headed for Japan with a cargo of wheat when it veered off course and ran aground. The bulker sustained damage to its forepeak and suffered water ingress. The Coast Guard was alerted by the crew of the incident. The Coast Guard dispatched a response team to scene. Aircraft were dispatched and found no oil pollution had been released.

The KM London was refloated by tugs the next day with the high tide. Three tugs escorted the vessel back to Longview where it can be surveyed of damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

The 19 meter long supply vessel Kitty Petra caught fire while off Rhyl, Wales. The fire started in the vessel’s engine room damaging one of the vessel’s engines. The Kitty Petra requested assistance with the RNLI lifeboats from Rhyl and Llandudno responding. The crew of the Kitty Petra were able to contain the blaze and were escorted back to Mostyn by the the lifeboats. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

Karlsøy

The 40 meter long, 150 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Karlsøy ran aground along the southern tip of Vangsøy Island, Norway. The Karlsøy was en route to Belvika with 6 passengers when it veered off course and ran ashore. No reports of injuries. The ferry was refloated a few hours later and proceeded to Belvika. The Karlsøy then proceeded on to Tromsø for further surveys and repairs. No reports of pollution released.  The cause of the grounding was not released.
