On August 25, the 228 meter long tanker Kamome Victoria ran aground in Gravesend Bay near the Ambrose Channel, off Sandy Hook and Queens, New York. The tanker was proceeding with 373,000 gallons of fuel on board when it ran aground.  The Kamome Victoria notified the Coast Guard the tanker had run aground. A team was dispatched and inspected the tanker for damage. No injuries or damage was found.  No signs of any pollution released.

The Kamome Victoria was refloated and allowed to continue its voyage. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

On August 3, a 195 foot long barge caught fire on the Intracoastal Waterway in the Mississippi Sound. The barge was under tow by the 23 meter long towboat Kathryn T. Devall carrying some 2500 pounds of anhydrous ammonia and 800 gallons of diesel fuel. Authorities in Gulfport, Mississippi were alerted and firefighters were able to douse the fire.

No reports of injuries to the 4 crew on board.  The Kathryn T. Devall and the barge were not in danger of sinking, but the vessels required to be towed to shore. An environmental team was dispatched to help with cleanup.

On July 29, the 89 meter long, 2784 dwt cargo vessel Kudma 4 ran aground on the Volga River near the 202 kilometer mark. The vessel was headed to Tver from St. Petersburg when it ran aground. The Kudma 4 did not block river traffic, but was unable to refloat itself.  Authorities were contacted and a salvage operation was launched. Reports state six vessels were involved in the refloating efforts which was successful the following day. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
