Koçaliler

On April 11, the 28 meter long fishing vessel Koçaliler caught fire while berthed at the Rumeli Feneri lighthouse, Turkey.  The fire started in the engine room during the night. Local authorities were alerted and safely evacuated the two sleeping crew on board the Koçaliler. A lifeboat was dispatched to the scene and was able to bring the fire under control. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

Kumala Endah

The 454 gt cargo vessel Kumala Endah sank off Belawan, Indonesia in the Strait of Malacca.  The Kumala Endah was en route to Borneo with 700 tons of steel from Belawan when it struck an underwater object. The Kumala Endah suffered hull damage and water ingress.  The cargo vessel quickly sank with 5 crewmen able to swim ashore.  Another 9 crew were reported as missing.  Reports state the Kumala Endah may have struck a shipwreck which had been reported in the area where the incident occurred.

Karola

The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Karola allided with a bridge on the Mittelland Canal near Bramsche, Germany. The Karola had broken free of its moorings and drifted down the canal until it struck the bridge. The vessel’s wheelhouse was smashed and the bridge sustained damaged.  No reports of injuries as there were no crew on board at the time of the incident.  Two barges arrived soon after the incident and pushed the Karola back to its berth. The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.
