KLIPPEN

The 20 meter long buoy tender Klippen went aground near Törevägen, Sweden.  The vessel was proceeding to check on buoys in the Kalix archipelago when it grounded.   The vessel suffered some damage to its hull.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.  The Klippen proceeded to a shipyard for repairs.  The authorities have launched an invesstigation into the incident.

Kenyo Maru No. 58

The 466 dwt fishing vessel  Kenyo Maru No. 58 caught fire off Callao, Peru.  The fire started after the vessel suffered an explosion. A distress call was sent out with patrol boats and tugs responding.   The rescue vessels were able to bring the fire under control, but only after several hours.  No reports of injuries to the 18 crew on board.  The Kenyo Maru No. 58 was taken under tow to and taken to a safe anchorage.   An investigation into the fire has been launched.

Kai Xin

The 105 meter long, 1810 dwt fishing vessel Kai Xin caught fire off the coast of Antarctica.  The crew sent out distress call requesting assistance.   The fishing vessel Juvel was nearby and responded to the scene.  The Juvel was able to safely rescue 90 crewmen from the Kai Xin.  The Chilean Navy has dispatched a tug to the scene to take the Kai Xin under tow.  The tug has anti-pollution equipment on board in case the Kai Xin releases any fuel into the water.
