On the early morning hours of February 10, the 40 meter long, 850 gt fishing vessel Koralhav (IMO: 92223124) ran aground on Litlbjørnøya just south of Rangsundøya, Norway. The Koralhav had stranded on the rocks and developed a significant list to starboard as the water levels dropped with the ebbing tide. The NSSR was called and they deployed the 22 meter long rescue boat Leif Erik Simonsen (MMSI: 259024040) to assist. The rescue boat found all 15 crew on the Koralhav in good condition and there were no water ingress.  Not requiring any rescue, the NSSR returned back to base.

The 32 meter long tug Boa Brage (IMO: 9551894) arrived on scene later the same day and was able to pull the Koralhav back into deep water.  The tug then took the fishing vessel under tow back to Sandnessjøen.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  The cause of the grounding and the extent of damage caused by the incident was not disclosed.

Kiel Canal Collision

Essence

On the morning of February 6, the 168 meter long, 21298 dwt container ship Essence (IMO: 9491496)  collided with the 142 meter long, 9516 dwt container ship X-Press Mülhacen (IMO: 9365960) on the Kiel Canal next to the Holtenau locks at Kiel, Germany. The Essence, en route to Rotterdam from Kotka, was exiting out of the south lock in thick fog when it scraped against the X-Press Mülhacen as it was attempting to enter the north lock. Both vessels were detained while the water police launched an investigation into the incident. After the questioning and inspections were completed a few hours later, the Essence was allowed to proceed on its voyage. Reports state the X-Press Mülhacen was detained until the evening of February 6 before it could continue on its journey to Gdynia.  There were no reports of injuries or any pollution released.

Kystbunker II

On the afternoon of January 14, the 46 meter long, 796 dwt bunker tanker Kystbunker II (IMO: 9821366) ran aground off the island of Glasøya, Norway. The Kystbunker II was was en route from Rørvik to Ålesund with bunker and lubricating oils when it went aground on the rocks off Glasøya. The tanker remained aground until it was pulled free early morning of January 15. Reports state there was no injuries, damage or pollution released. The Kystbunker II  proceeded on its voyage to Ålesund.
