Lift boat Capsizes

The 74 foot long, 99 gt lift boat Starfish capsized in the Gulf of Mexico near Port Fourchon, Louisiana.   The Starfish had been struck by multiple waterspouts.  The five crew evacuated and were later rescued.   The men were later released from hospital after being treated for minor injuries.  The owners have sent another liftboat to the scene to monitor and coordinate salvage efforts.

Luminous Ace

 

The 188 meter long cargo vessel Luminous Ace went aground on the Columbia River near mile marker 40.   The vessel went aground after an electrical outage cause the vessel to lose steering.   The crew dropped anchor to avoid the vessel to drift further.   The Coast Guard responded sending a helicopter to do an aerial inspection finding no signs of pollution being released.  While anchored, the crew was able to regain power back on the Luminous Ace.   Tugs will assist in releasing the vessel at the next high tide.   No reports of injuries or damage.

Lakers Collide

The 26,778 dwt bulk carrier Cason J. Callaway collided with the 304 meter long, 82,209 dwt bulk carrier Indiana Harbor at Duluth-Superior, Harbor.  The Cason J. Callaway had just completed loading iron ore and was leaving the CN doc when it struck the Indiana Harbor which was moored at the Midwest Energy dock loading coal.   The Indiana Harbor suffered damage to the starboard side of its hull.   The Callaway suffered some damage, but was able to make temporary repairs and proceed the following day.   No reports of injury or pollution being released.
