The 88 meter long, 3740 dwt freighter Nina Bres went aground off Skåne, Sweden.   The vessel’s master had made a navigational error and steered the freighter toward the shoreline.  The vessel grounded a short distance off shore.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  A tug was able to refloat the vessel both proceeded to Sydhamnen under its own power.   Divers will inspect the hull for damage.  Reports state the master had suffered from a sudden illness which was the probable cause leading to the incident.

Nikolay Bauman

Nikolay Bauman

The 114 meter long, 3136 dwt river freighter Nikolay Bauman sank in the Black Sea near the Danube Delta between Romania and Ukraine coastlines.  The freighter was headed to Kherson from Eregli with a cargo of gypsum when it suffered water ingress in its forward holds.   The crew was unable to control the flooding and the master changed course towards shore hoping to the ground the vessel.  Twelve miles off shore the Nikolay Bauman foundered and rests under 15 meters of water.   The 11 crew were rescued by Ukrainian authorities and taken to Vilkovo for treatment.

Neuland

Neuland

The 89 meter long freighter Neuland allided with a pier at Brake, Germany.   The Neuland was approaching the pier when the strong current caused the stern of the vessel to strike the pier.  The vessel suffered minor damage above the waterline, but a crane sustained significant damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released.   The Neuland was detained by authorities until an investigation is completed into the incident.
