The 59 meter long supply vessel Ocean Spirit 1 ran aground near Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands. The Ocean Spirit 1 had run aground on the rocks just outside the entrance to the East Gregory Channel. Authorities dispatched inspectors to the scene to examine the vessel for damage.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. Reports state the Coast Guard was coordinating efforts with the vessel’s owner to salvage the Ocean Spirit 1.

Ocean Voyager

On December 8, the 107 meter long, 9231 dwt cargo vessel Ocean Voyager ran aground off Storegrunnen Lighthouse near Drøbak, Norway. The Ocean Voyager had suffered a mechanical fault and drifted aground while proceeding to Oslo. The crew requested assistance with multiple tugs responding. A few hours later with the rising tide, the tugs were able to refloat the Ocean Voyager and proceeded to Oslo. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

 

Ojibway

On July 7, the 194 meter long, 18602 dwt bulk carrier Ojibway caught fire on Lake Huron at Sarnia, Ontario. The fire started in the vessel’s galley and quickly intensified. Local fire fighters were requested and were able to extinguish the blaze a short time later. No reports of injuries to the 24 crew, but one fire fighter sustained injuries and taken to hospital for treatment. Reports state the Ojibway sustained damage around $100,000 (Canadian Dollars).
