On January 9, the 11 meter long fishing vessel Peik ran aground near Slettnes Lighthouse in Finnmark, Norway. The Peik was crab fishing south of Sørøya when ran up on the rocks at Gamvik.  A search and rescue operations was launched looking for the two crew on board the Peik.  Authorities searching the area found a small amount of debris and recovered one of the deceased crew.  The search continued through January 10 with helicopters and lifeboats looking for the missing crewman.  Reports state the search was halted a few days later without finding the missing crew.

On June 10, the 302 foot long barge PML2501 ran aground on the St. Marys River near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The barge was being towed by the 132 foot long tugboat Anglian Lady bound for Burns Harbor, Indiana with 3622 tons of coal tar and 6000 gallons of diesel fuel when it struck bottom off Sweets Point. The barge sustained hull damage and suffered water ingress in a ballast tank. The Coast Guard was alerted and found there was no pollution being released from the PML2501. A safety zone was established around the barge while a salvage plan is being developed. No reports of injuries. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Pacific Pearl

On March 7, the 70 foot long wooden fishing vessel Pacific Pearl sank off Naden Harbour, Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia, Canada. The crew had alerted authorities that the trawler had sprung a leak and the pumps were unable to control the flooding. The RCMP and Canadian Coast Guard responded sending vessels to the scene. Rescuers arrived and placed dewatering pumps on the Pacific Pearl and safely transferred all 5 crew off the fishing vessel. The Pacific Pearl was taken under tow, but the pumps were unable to keep up with the flooding. The Pacific Pearl sank and a red buoy was placed over the wreck. No reports of injuries.
