The 865 dwt reefer vessel Refrigerator-604 ran onto the rocks while entering Malo-Kurilskaya Bay, Shikotan Island, Kuril Islands. The vessel sits just 30 meters offshore rolled onto its right side. The vessel sustained heavy damage to the ballast tanks, hull holed, and engine room flooded. The crew of 14 were rescued. A tug is to be on scene to pump fuel out before the tanks leak. No reports on the cargo of 800 tons of forzen saury, but the vessel was listed to be scrapped.
The 4450 dwt ro-ro Cometa went aground on a small spit of land called the Fugletangskjaer located off the coast of Norway between Asmaloy and Kirkeoy. The Cometa was travelling from Oslo, Norway to Fredrikstad with cargo when it struck. Reports state no water ingress and the vessel was waiting for tug assistance. The cause of the accident has not be determined, but the vessel did not have a pilot onboard.
The ro-ro ferry Patria collided with the Malta mv tanker San Benedetto on the Kiel Canal near Schwarzenbek, Germany. The Patria hit the San Benedetto’s portside below of the main stack. The damage on the San Benedetto left a large hole on the portside. The Patria suffered some damage to the superstructure and a gash on the forepeak.
