Skulptor Tomskiy

The 138 meter long, 7673 dwt reefer Skulptor Tomskiy went aground in the Morskoy Canal at St. Petersburg, Russia.   The reefer was entering the port and had a pilot on board when it went aground.  The Tomskiy was unable to free itself and required the assistance of four tugs to be refloated later that day.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.

Saginaw Damaged

The 194 meter long, 19390 dwt self-unloader bulk carrier Saginaw suffered damage while unloading at Thunder Bay, Canada.   The Saginaw’s 75 meter long boom failed and fell onto the terminal where the vessel was docked.  The boom wasn’t being used at the time and was moved out over the terminal to allow the crew to access the hatches to load cargo onto the vessel.  The boom was damaged, but no details to what extent and the time frame to repair or replace the boom.   No one was injured.   The Saginaw was completing the last shipment at Thunder Bay for the shipping season  and scheduled to unload its cargo at Essar Steel Algoma Inc. in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

Sternberg

The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Sternberg allided with a bridge on the Hamm Canal near Luenen, Germany.  The bridge suffered no damage, but the Sternberg’s wheelhouse was completely destroyed.  Reports state the vessel suffered about 7500€ in damage.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.    The vessel was in ballast after unloading cargo at Bergkamen and was bound for Orsoy.   The water police is conducting an investigation into the incident.
