A barge carrying a two-story home became stuck near where the Mokelumne River and San Joaquin Rivers intersect in the Sacramento River Delta. The small vessel towing the barge had lost control of the steering allowing the barge to run aground. The barge and house listing to one side some 200 feet from shore. The Coast Guard has issued an alert since there are no lights on the structure to alert boaters of its location at night. The barge was being towed from Sacramento to Helen, California. Some damage to the home is expected as it rests partially submerged.
Sternwheeler Aground
The sternwheeler Willamette Queen was reported aground on the Willamette River south of Salem, Oregon. The vessel was travelling between Independance and Salem when it struck a gravel bar. Eight passengers were safely rescued by the local marine patrol. No reports of injuries.
Scallop Boat Saved
The 2 men on board the 40-foot wooden sea scallop boat Probable Cause contacted the Coast Guard that the vessel had water ingress and was in need of assistance. The Probable Cause was off Provincetown, Massachusetts, when the vessel began to flood. The Coast Guard deployed the 47-foot motor lifeboat and a Jayhawk helicopter to the stricten Probable Cause. The lifeboat was able to tow the Probable Cause back to port while the helicopter did an aerial inspection for any pollution being released. While tied to the pier, the crew of the Probable Cause were able to make temporary repairs to the leak. No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
