The 225 meter long, 74269 dwt bulk carrier Vitaspirit allided with the shoreline on the Bosphorus under the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge near Istanbul, Turkey. The Vitaspirit had become disabled after its rudder became stuck.  Unable to steer, the bulk carrier ran against the shoreline striking the 18th century Hekimbaşı Salih Efendi mansion. The mansion was nearly destroyed, but there were no reports of injuries or pollution released from the Vitaspirit.

Traffic was halted on the Bosphorus until the Vitaspirit could be towed away. Reports state there was a pilot on board and the vessel had suffered a mechanical malfunction with the rudder.

Verandering

The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Verandering allided with the Koningin Máxima Bridge at Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands. The Verandering was passing under the bridge when the wheelhouse struck the bridge. The Verandering’s wheelhouse had its roof torn off while the bridge sustained some concrete damage. Traffic was halted until the Verandering was taken to a nearby quay while the bridge was inspected for damage.  No reports of injuries.

Việt Thuận 68

The 79 meter long, 3095 dwt cargo vessel Việt Thuận 68 collided and sank off Nam Dinh, Vietnam. The Việt Thuận 68 had collided with the coastal vessel Phuong Linh 16 sustaining hull damage including water ingress.  The crew of the Phuong Linh 16 transferred a pump over to the Việt Thuận 68 while it took it under tow back to port.  Two other vessels arrived on scene to help escort the crippled Việt Thuận 68 being towed by the Phuong Linh 16.  Before the vessels reached the safety of port, the pumps failed to stop the flooding.  Before the Việt Thuận 68 sank, all nine crew were safely rescued. No reports of injuries.
