The 6901 dwt Van D0n 02 foundered in the South China Sea 250 miles off Ba Ria Vung Tau provence of Vietnam. The vessel sent out a distress signal after it encountered bad weather. Reports state that 12 crewmen were saved local fishing vessels, but 11 were listed as missing. The Van Don 02 was sailing from Malaysia to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam with a cargo of construction materials.
Reports state a 70 ton barge sank near Rio Cordoba, Columbia loaded with coal. The barge owned by the mining company Vale S.A. The barge sinking was caused by bad weather and rough seas. No details given on injuries, pollution or salvage of the barge.
The 1500 dwt reefer vessel Vestlandia struck ice off the Greenland Coast near Upernavik. Reports state there was some damage to the hull, but the vessel was able to reach Nuussuaq Bight to be inspected.
