The vessel Waibel 11 went aground on the Rhine River near Plittersdorf, Germany. The Waibel’s rudder had failed and the vessel drifted onto a gravel bank. The Waibel 11 was unable to free itself and a dredger has been requested to lighter the Waibel of 600 tons of its 2100 tons of gravel on board. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
Weesam Express 8 Aground
The 85 dwt passenger ship Wessam Express 8 went aground off Lawis Ledge, Cebu, Philippines. The fast craft left Tagbilaran City, Bohol with 208 passengers and 13 crew when it stranded two kilometers from port. Reports state no one was injured, but passengers were kept on board for several hours before rescue craft arrived. The delay for the response is not clear as the Coast Guard had been contacted shortly after the vessel went aground.
Wrong-way Dana1
The 1885 dwt freighter Dana1 went aground while entering the port of Neustadt, Germany. The master of the Dana1 was looking for the correct berth had turned his vessel around, but headed back into the harbor on the wrong side of the channel. The side of the channel the Dana1 was headed was shallow and muddy. Luckily, the vessel was able to refloat itself under its own power and proceed to the correct basin. Local authorities have detained the vessel until it can be inspected. All nine crew on board were uninjured.
