Zelenga

The 82 meter long, 1810 dwt cargo vessel Zelenga ran aground on the Don River near Rostov-on-Don, Russia. The vessel had veered out the fairway when it became stuck on a mudbank while en route to Yalta. A tug was dispatched and was able to free the Zelenga a short time later. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Zircone

The 125 meter long, 8000 dwt tanker Zircone caught fire in the Gulf of Riga near Riga, Latvia. The Zircone had departed from Riga with 7,000 tons of diesel fuel on board when a fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room. The fire grew in intensity and quickly disabled the vessel. Latvian authorities dispatched a helicopter along with several patrol boats to the scene. They found the tanker adrift with the crew on board fighting the fire. The crew eventually was able to bring the fire under control a few hours later. No reports of injuries to the 17 crew on board.

A tug later towed the Zircone back to Riga. The tanker moored at the Riga Shipyard where it will undergo repairs. No reports of pollution released.

Ze Hong

Ze Hong

The 203 meter long 41,553 dwt container ship Ze Hong ran aground in the Bohai Sea at Yinghou, China. The boxship made a navigation error as it maneuvered into the harbor and ran up on a bank just off the breakwater.

The crew were able to refloat the vessel under its own power. Authorities dispatched three tugs which towed the Ze Hong to a nearby berth later the same day. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Authorities launched an investigation into the incident.
